Update: Blogger has introduced an easier way to delete labels. Sign into Dashboard, go to POST > EDIT POST which will cause all the posts to be displayed. At the top, next to the LABEL ACTION drop-down box (see screenshot below), click SELECT ALL, click the drop-down arrow, scroll to the lower half where you can see REMOVE LABELS with the list of labels below it. Click on the label you wish to remove and the selected label will be deleted from all posts:

To remove a label is simple. All you have to do is to edit all the posts that contain the label you want to remove, remove the label from the "Labels for this post:" at the bottom of the post and publish. When you are done, the label will be removed from your Label List.
To edit more than 1 post at the same time, refer to Remove labels the easy way via Label Action in Dashboard
Note: The easiest way to edit all the post with a particular label is to, first sign into blogger.com (Dashboard), go the the blog where you want ot remove the label, click on the label in the Label List, which will then display all the posts with that label in the same page, Click the quick edit pencil icon

If you don't see a quick edit pencil icon at the bottom of the posts, you have not enabled quick editing for that blog (this should already be enabled by default if you have not changed this setting, but it is hard to say). Click the SETTINGS tab, and by default, you will straight away be in the BASIC sub-tab. Look for "Add your Blog to our listings?" which should be the third settings, click the down arrow in the menu bar (box) to the left and select YES. At the bottom, click SAVE SETTINGS.
How to remove label counts
From a commentator:Sign into Dashboard, click LAYOUT then EDIT HTML to open the template editor. Look for the line of code (use ctrl+F to quickly find):
<span dir='ltr'>(<data:label.count/>)</span>
Delete that line of code to remove label count (see screen shot below):
.jpg)
I don't know if I'd call that "easy." If you've only got a few posts with a particular label, sure you can go right in and edit them. But if you've got dozens or hundreds of posts with a label and then you've decided to rename that label, you've got a lot of work ahead of you.
ReplyDeleteCould we do clouds of the tags? It looks nicer that the list of tags.
ReplyDeleteHi itte,
ReplyDeleteDo you mean that list of labels displayed in the sidebar of New Blogger blogs? That is automatically generated. If you want tag clouds, that can be done, but the tag have to be created manually for each post. See Categories: Easy method.

Amazing and great information, I really enjoyed reading you post. However Peter it would help me if you explained how to semi automatically add labels to my old classic blogger. I wish to do this so that i won't lost all the customization I have done!

I have labels in the Label List that are NOT in any post and they keep showing in the list. It's bothering cause i want to show a Label List on the blog and it keeps displaying these labels that i already remove from all posts. Would you know what the problem may be?
ReplyDeleteHi Default Man,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a very unusual problem which will be hard to reproduce. To be able to answer you, I will have to try to do some testing, try to reproduce the problem you have reported and then try to remove the label as described in this post. If the problem is as you described it, even if I can reproduce the problem you mentioned, I anticipate further problems because you said you don't have such label in ANY posts. This is a tough call.
If I am faced with such a problem, what I may do would be to try my luck, backup my current template plus any Page Elements that can be back-uped (see Backup current template PLUS Page Elements and change new template. The "new template can be the same original template you used minus all the customization or a completely new template and see if the problem persists. If not, just upload back your backup template, and put back any Page Elements that may be deleted or became empty and you should be back in square one.
No promises, give me some time and I will see if I can find a solution.
Instead of hoping for a solution from me, another way you can try is to post your problem to the Google Blogger Help group where there may be other bloggers who had the same problem and managed to solve it. He/she may then be able to help you.

I found this post because I'm trying to remove the labels from appearing with my posts. I deletein the post customization, but they still appear.
ReplyDeleteBut i have a doubt here, if i remove the labels and re-publish the posts again, will it actually affect my ranking of that particular post/posts? I dont want to affect that part in the name of removing labels? can you help me?
ReplyDeleteRemoving labels doesn't affect the post at all. Also, label pages I believe are not indexed by search engines.
ReplyDeletehi, i want to edit my labels quickly, i want to have just 5 labels, all kinds of label i will move to 5 label, can you tell me the way to do that? i have 1200 post.

Is there any way to clear all the autofilling with labels? ie, start from scratch?
ReplyDeleteAutofilling of labels? What is that? I never see any labels being automatically filled in the box for labels when preparing a post in the post editor, only a drop-down list of likely labels. Can you elaborate please.

Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI am not able to put Lables on my Blog.Gone thru all ur stuff on label.
The content i put into Label also comes into Blog Archive, which is repeated.

Slave of Allah,
ReplyDeleteBlogs have certain characteristics and you either accept them or turn to other ways of publishing whatever you want online. Blog posts have duplicates, one in the permalinks (individual post URL) and another in the archives. If you don't want things you publish in the archive, you will have to turn to static pages
Hey do you think you can do me a big favor and teach me how to remove labels under my post now i still want my labels i would just like to hide hem. now i have that option checked off on "design" "Blogpost" and it still dosen't work even tried the code you said to remove any help please and thank you =)
ReplyDeleteThen perhaps one need to find the section in the template and if you don't want to remove them permanently, surround them with the comment tag <!-- and -->
ReplyDeletehey, can I delete my label. I mean my label's name. ex: I want to delete "friends" label and change it into "fellas" like that. help me :)

Doesn't deleting lables remove that keyword thus making it less easy to be found by search engines?
ReplyDeleteDepends on what you want. Perhaps some may think that having too many labels makes it difficult for visitors to browse the labels and decide where to look for what they want?
ReplyDeleteHi, Peter! I just followed the steps above, it was pretty easy to follow, tnx for the tips! ROCK ON!!! =)
ReplyDeletehmmmm...
ReplyDeleteyour techinique is good but i don't want to remove the "label design" only the label of my list.
ooohhhhhhhh my words make me feel dizzy..
keep update sir!
blog walking..
how to disable labels in the new page which i creates......my new page in the blogger is entirely different concept so i want to create new label list for new pages...can i allowed to do that????
ReplyDeleteIf you mean using Blogger static pages to create something entirely different from your normal pages (home, archives, permalink, labels) I am sorry to disappoint you. However, you can change your main blog to a custom domain and then create sub-domains for your special pages which will be entirely different from your main blog.
ReplyDeleteFor Matteo, it is better to post your problem to the Blogger Help Forum
