Backup classic template for the XML New Blogger template

Before you convert your Blogger blog with classic template to use the New Blogger XML template, it will be good to copy the classic template template into a Notepad file and save it, say, in a folder named backup template followed by the name of the blog if you have more than one blog. Note that this classic backup template cannot be used directly as a backup for a New Blogger XML template. What you can do is to save the recognizable script for the various elements you have added to the classic template.

For example, your statcounter script may look like

<!-- Start of StatCounter Code -->
<script type="text/javascript">
sc_project=3419647;
sc_invisible=1;
sc_partition=38;
sc_security="26fb1d97";
</script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter_xhtml.js"></script><noscript><div class="statcounter"><a class="statcounter" href="http://www.statcounter.com/free_hit_counter.html"><img class="statcounter" src="http://c39.statcounter.com/3419647/0/26fb1d97/1/" alt="php hit counter" /></a></div></noscript>
<!-- End of StatCounter Code -->

Copy-paste this into a separate Notepad file using an easily remembered file name in an easily recognizable folder. Now when you want to add this back into a New Blogger XML template, do not add this direct into the template. Add it via the LAYOUT and into a HTML/Javascript Page Element.

  1. I've just finished writing a blog post and when I click to publish I get this error message:

    ERROR
    URL contains illegal characters

    It's in a red bar and looks very severe. there is nothing but text in the post I've written and this has never happened before. Any ideas about how to solve this problem?
