Alert: Individual post page (permalink) can sometimes be blank pages, and what you need to do

Recently I answered a question on the Google Blogger Help forum by including a link to How to build traffic to your blog (click "BACK" button to get back to this page). She alerted me to the fact that the link leads to a blank page. I checked and found that it does lead to a blank page. I went the Dashboard of that blog, get to the "EDIT POST" tab, and click "VIEW" in that post, and got a blank page too. I copied the URL and pasted it into the address bar - same result. I tested to see if it is something in the post that lead to this problem by copying word for word (in the EDIT HTML mode, everything in the post editor and pasted it in a new post Duplicate: How to build traffic to your blog (click "BACK" button to return to this page) and the post was viewable, so it wasn't anything in the post. Someone with the nickname Wasted posted that I may need to republish the whole blog. I did that and sure enough, that problem post was viewable again.

So folks, perhaps it may be a good idea to republish the whole blog once in a while to ensure that you don't face a similar problem. You wouldn't want to view your individual post page one by one to verify that the problem don't exist. Anyway, I think I will also alert Blogger support of this problem, and hope that a similar problem will not exist in the Blogger Beta blogs.

    Hi Peter

Thanks very much for stopping by at Kevin the Collie. The doggies are all busy flirting on his blog, so I am putting a post on my blog telling the readers about the help you gave me. John

  3. sadly peter this has happened to me on beta.

    and it's still happening.

i can't see any of my archives, or labels or even direct links back to posts.

i'm using a layout template with new xml that was tweeked to look like my old one, but even with the new 'simple' layout widgets they don't work.

i know the pages exist because if i revert back to my classic template they show with no problem.

but with the layout template the posts main body is missing.

seriously frustrating. as it looks like i'll have to go back to classic AGAIN, and give up on all the new label and 'older/newer' posts features.

lovely to see you smiling by the way!! :)

  4. Hi Keda,

Sorry to hear about your problems with the New Blogger, etc. I have had no problem with the migration, and even suprised that there are plus points even with the classic template, even a pleasant suprise. See post Advantages of migrating to the New Blogger (formerly beta) account, even when retaining the classic template. But maybe my case is different from yours as I am not too picky about the templates.

Regarding the smile (no, laugh), that is a pretty rare photo you are seeing. Wish it could be a regular feature.

  6. Hi ujval,

I am not very sure what you want as I don't fully understand your question. Maybe you are referring to the fact that the post "Why I change the header" is alway at the top of the main page. This is what is referred to as a sticky post. And to do this, refer to these posts:
Old classic Blogger: How to make a post remain at the top of the main page

New Blogger (formerly Blogger Beta): How to add AdSense, searchbar, "sticky post, etc to the top of every page of the blog

If these are not what you want, feel free to comment again.

  7. Hi ujval,

I had a peep at your blog http://vistatip.blogspot.com/
Looks like you have 3 posts there, but you have enabled only 1 post in the main page. Maybe what you are trying to do is to have more than 1 posts on the main page, but have always the same post appear at the top? Is that what you want?

  9. Hi ujval,

I still do not understand your question. Regarding Recent Posts, New Blogger no longer support Recent Posts. It has instead been replaced by Archives which show below it the current month posts.

  10. Searching for answer to: how to post a verifying html code to "home page" on a blogspot page for Google to collect stats on the site. I am not sure where to insert the code, or what is considered the "home page". I have inserted it into the "Edit HTML", but, Google says it cannot verify I own the site. Second question, after reading this post and comments; how do you re-publish entire blog?
