How to comment out the profile

Update 22 May 2007: This post is for those using the old classic template. If you are using the New Blogger template, get into LAYOUT, click the EDIT link in the ABOUT ME Page Element, then click REMOVE PAGE ELEMENT.

Some bloggers don't like their profile to be seen on their blog. If so, it is easy to remove or hide the profile. To remove the profile, sign into the Dashboard, select the blog, click the TEMPLATE tab to open the template editor. Then look for this block of code.
<!-- Begin #profile-container -->

<$BlogMemberProfile$>

<!-- End #profile -->

The profile can be commented out by surrounding the profile container with the comment tags <!-- and --> so that the code end up like this:
<!-- Begin #profile-container -->
<!--
<$BlogMemberProfile$>
-->
<!-- End #profile -->

If you do this, you can still easily reverse the process by removing the comment tags when you changed your mind. If you wish, you may also completely delete the profile HTML codes shown in either boxes, but this will mean you will have to add the codes back in again if you change your mind.

  1. ...or just delete it from the template ;D

    That's what I do most of the times!

  2. I just started my first blog, and am trying to figure out how to eliminate the "About Me" info from the front page (I do want it to appear on the profile page).

    Your post on this from 2006 says to look for some code that says -- #profile-container (among other things).

    There is no such code in my HTML. Perhaps this has changed since Blogger has the new Layout template.

    Any updates on this?

    Also, would love to know how to create paragraph breaks for the "About Me" -- and to add links.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi Ja,

    This post was written for the old classic template. You remined me to put an update in the post. In New Blogger, if you want to remove the profile, just click EDIT for the profile Page Element and then click Remove Page Element.

  4. A related problem, Peter--
    I accidentally deleted my "profile" from the main page and don't know how to reinstate it. None of the pulldowns seemed to have this option.

  5. Hi,

    Regarding losing your profile, since you are asking in this post, I am assuming you are using the old classic template. To confirm, refer to old classic Blogger template or New Blogger template. If it is confirmed that you are using the old classic template, just add this back to the template:

    <!-- Begin #profile-container -->

    <$BlogMemberProfile$>

    <!-- End #profile -->

    If you wish, you can just just the middle one and leave out the first and last lines.

    If you are using the New Blogger template, get into Layout and add it back via ADD A PAGE ELEMENT. Refer to Customizing your blog. Profile is not mentioned there, but you will see it as one of the choices.

  6. One more thing, regarding "pull down". I don't know what you are referring to, but when facing similar "problems", I usually change browser. See What to do when you cannot upload photos, see Add a Page Element, cannot download websites, etc.

  7. One more thing I forgot. If you are using the old classic template, and want to add your profile back, refer to Add content via old classic Blogger template as a guide as to where to add back

    <!-- Begin #profile-container -->

    <$BlogMemberProfile$>

    <!-- End #profile -->>

    Or if you have surrounded the above with <!-- and -->, Just delete them.

  9. Thanks, Peter, but when I go to "Layout" (new blogger version) I don't have the option listed for "profile."

  10. Hi Stacie,

    Can you do a screenshot of your LAYOUT? If not, refer to Making and editing screenshots. Even if you know how to do screenshots, I think the post above will show you the many things you can do.

    Make a screenshot of the Layout where you say you can't see the Profile, upload it using Photobucket or upload in a post and give me the URL.

    In the meantime, you can try using a different browser and see if that helps. See
    What to do when you can't upload photos, see Page Elements, can't download webpage, can't log in, etc.

    Why you should be using more than one browser.
